I am Shar Turner, a proud native New Yorker (that’s also my favorite song) born, and raised. I’ve been a makeup artist since birth, but professionally for 13 years. My love of makeup comes from watching the women in my family glam up when I was a kid. I fell deeper in love with makeup in my teenage years during the 80’s. I still feel like that was the most expressive time in makeup. I found myself intrigued, and inspired by music videos like Pat Benatar’s “Love Is A Battlefield”, Cindi Lauper in “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun”, and Madonna in pretty much everything she did. I was most drawn to David Bowie, Boy George, and of course, Freddy Mercury!!! I had never seen men in makeup before and it seemed like there were no rules - which fit my rebellious self just fine. And yet there was also the breathtakingly beautiful artistry I would see in magazines through the genius that was the incredible Kevyn Aucoin. I loved it all, and I knew I had to be a part of it.
My number one responsibility as an artist is to always make sure that those who look to learn from me understand that makeup is universal, and that means knowing how to work on all skin tones and being able to work with everyone. Inclusivity is everything to me as an artist. My second responsibility as an artist is always connecting with my muse because that’s how the magic happens on set and off. Some of my favorite and most recent publications include Vogue Africa, L’OFFICIEL, The Source, Billboard, and Edith magazine. These are where my makeup application and the connection made reflect in the imagery. The energy was created the moment they sat in my chair. It further solidifies the saying “when you love what you do, you’re really not working”. That is one awesome feeling!!!! .
"This is my favorite skin prep brush!! It holds my serums and oils in a way that allows me to apply a proper full skincare prep using less product, and still being to give my muses' skin the hydration it needs before applying foundation. And oh that angle!!!! I can easily get into spaces that often do not get the same treatment as the rest of the skin. "
"I absolutely love this brush because I can either apply a flawless foundation or achieve a gorgeous blush application that I can then diffuse and turn into a wash of color. It delivers a beautiful highlight also. "
"This brush is my ride-or-die in my kit. From providing a soft highlight, to placing powder with a gentle stipple, to doing my favorite thing - giving your foundation an airbrush-like finish by moving the brush over your foundation in soft circular motions. She can do it all!!!"
"This brush is a dream for lips. You can easily line the thinnest, or fullest lips with its angled shape, and brush on color effortlessly leaving you with nothing less than a perfect lip."
"I am obsessed with this brush! It is a must in my kit - I have 6 of them! This brush is amazing for creating softness on a nose or eye contour. It blends shadows beautifully but also works wonders for tapping powder into parts you want to control shine in."
"Smudging? Line-work? Lip lining? This beauty does it all!!! I love creating graphic lines and this brush lets me do just that. I can easily use gel, cream, or mattes, and I’m still going to get beautiful results. "
"I saved the best for last. This is the “Queen Bee” of my brushes!!! She does it ALL!!! While this is the perfect powder brush, she is also great for blending shadows and setting eye primers. My favorite thing about the Queen is how she flawlessly blends concealers when I want to create a faux eye lift. "
